The Hawker 800 is a mid-size twinjet corporate aircraft. It is an enhancement of the British Aerospace 125, and was assembled by Hawker Beechcraft. In the early 1980s, British Aerospace wanted to refine the BAe 125-700 series. By May 1983, the new aircraft was ready for its first test flight. It has a redesigned cockpit windscreen, a modified rear fuselage fairing, and a glass cockpit. British Aerospace incorporated wingtip devices to reduce drag and refine aerodynamic efficiency. The original Hawker 800 used two AlliedSignal TFE731-5R-1H engines, each giving 4,200 pounds of thrust on takeoff. It was one of the first business jets with an entirely digital cockpit.
The Hawker 800 offers passengers high levels of comfort. Its spacious cabin is usually fitted with eight seats in a four-seat club section and a three-seat divan. An additional passenger can be seated in the enclosed lavatory. It has a maximum speed of 456 knots and a range of 2,580 nautical miles.
The Hawker 800 series now includes the 800XP, 800XPI, and 850XP. The 800XP has more robust engines, as well as winglets that extend its range by 100 nautical miles. The final version, the Hawker 850XP, was certified in 2006. After the 2013 bankruptcy of Hawker Beechcraft, production of the 800 series was discontinued. By 2018, a 1995 800A was priced at $1.02 million, and many are still flying today.
